Aruna Asaf Ali was an Indian independence activist who played a significant role in the Indian independence movement. She was born in 1909 in Kalka, Punjab (now in Haryana), and was educated at the University of Delhi and the London School of Economics.
During the 1930s, Ali became involved in the independence movement, and she was arrested several times for participating in civil disobedience campaigns and other acts of protest against British rule. She became a member of the Indian National Congress and was involved in organizing several protests and strikes against the British government.
In 1942, Ali played a key role in the Quit India Movement, which was a nationwide civil disobedience campaign launched by the Indian National Congress to demand the immediate withdrawal of British forces from India. Ali was arrested and imprisoned for her participation in the movement.
After India gained independence in 1947, Ali continued to be active in politics and served as a member of the Indian parliament. She died in 1996, and is remembered for her contributions to the Indian independence movement
