The Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly is the presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly, the lower house of the Odisha state legislature in India.
The Speaker is responsible for maintaining order and decorum in the Assembly, ensuring that the proceedings are conducted smoothly and efficiently.
The Speaker presides over the proceedings of the Assembly, putting forward motions and proposals, and ruling on points of order and procedure.
The Speaker also has the authority to suspend or expel members of the Assembly for unruly behavior or contempt of the House.
The Speaker is elected by the members of the Assembly from among their own ranks, and holds office until the end of the term of the Assembly.
In addition to his or her duties as the presiding officer of the Assembly, the Speaker also performs various ceremonial and representational functions as the head of the Assembly.
The Speaker is assisted by the Deputy Speaker, who presides over the Assembly in the absence of the Speaker.
