India's Nationally Determined Contribution.

India has made a number of commitments to address climate change through its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

India has committed to:

  • Reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 33-35% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.

  • Achieving about 40% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel based energy resources by 2030, with the help of transfer of technology and low cost international finance including from Green Climate Fund (GCF).

  • Creating an additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent through additional forest and tree cover by 2030.

India has also committed to taking a number of adaptation measures to address the impacts of climate change, including:

  • Strengthening the resilience of its agricultural and forestry sectors to the impacts of climate change.

  • Enhancing the capacity of its communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change, including through the development of early warning systems and the promotion of sustainable practices.

  • Building the capacity of its institutions to manage and respond to the impacts of climate change, including through the development of adaptation plans and the establishment of adaptation funds.

Overall, India's NDCs reflect a commitment to addressing climate change through a combination of mitigation and adaptation measures, with a focus on promoting sustainable development and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
