Kuntala Kumari Sabat was an Indian independence activist and leader who played a significant role in the Indian independence movement. She was a member of the Indian National Congress and was closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi. She was one of the few women who actively participated in the independence movement and worked towards the empowerment of women in India.
Sabat was born in a small village in Odisha, India, in 1907. She was inspired by Gandhi's philosophy of non-violent resistance and actively participated in various movements and campaigns organized by the Indian National Congress. She worked towards the promotion of education and health care for women and was an advocate for the rights of women and marginalized communities.
Sabat was also involved in the Salt Satyagraha and the Quit India Movement, two major campaigns organized by the Indian National Congress in the 1930s and 1940s to demand independence from British rule. She was arrested and imprisoned several times for her participation in these movements.
After India's independence in 1947, Sabat continued to work towards the empowerment of women and the upliftment of marginalized communities. She served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly and worked towards the development of the state. She died in 1995, leaving a lasting legacy as a leader and activist for women's rights in India.
