State briefly the role of the Attorney General of India.

The Attorney General of India is the chief legal adviser to the Government of India and the country's chief law officer. The Attorney General is appointed by the President of India on the advice of the Prime Minister and holds office at the pleasure of the President. The Attorney General is a member of the Union Council of Ministers, and is the highest ranking law officer in the country.
The main role of the Attorney General is to provide legal advice to the government and its various departments and agencies, and to represent the government in legal proceedings before the courts. The Attorney General also represents the government in matters before the Supreme Court of India, and in cases where the government is a party. The Attorney General is responsible for giving advice to the government on the drafting and interpretation of laws, and for providing legal guidance on the implementation of government policies. The Attorney General also has the power to initiate and conduct legal proceedings on behalf of the government, and to intervene in legal proceedings involving the government.
