Utkalmani Gopabandhu Dash, also known as "Gopabandhu," was a prominent leader of the Indian independence movement in the state of Odisha (formerly known as Orissa). He was a member of the Indian National Congress and played a key role in the Non-Cooperation Movement in Odisha.
The Non-Cooperation Movement was a major political and social movement in India that was launched by the Indian National Congress in 1920. The movement was led by Mahatma Gandhi and aimed to protest British rule in India through non-violent means. It was based on the principles of non-violent resistance, or satyagraha, and sought to mobilize Indians to withdraw their cooperation from the British government and its institutions.
In Odisha, Gopabandhu played a crucial role in organizing the Non-Cooperation Movement. He traveled throughout the state, addressing meetings and spreading the message of non-violent resistance. He was also instrumental in organizing the boycott of British goods and institutions, and encouraged people to adopt swadeshi (self-reliance) and khadi (hand-spun cloth).
Gopabandhu was a popular and influential leader in Odisha, and his efforts during the Non-Cooperation Movement had a significant impact on the state. He is remembered as a hero of the Indian independence movement and is still revered in Odisha today.
