Who are the permanent members of UN Security Council? Justify India's efforts for Permanent seat.

The permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) are:

China

France

Russia

United Kingdom

United States

These countries, also known as the P5, hold veto power in the UNSC, meaning that they can block the adoption of any substantive resolution.

  • India has been actively seeking permanent membership in the UNSC for many years, and has made several efforts towards this goal. Some of the main reasons for India's efforts for permanent membership in the UNSC are:

  • India is the world's largest democracy, with a population of over 1.3 billion people. It has a long history of participating in UN peacekeeping operations and has contributed significantly to the organization's efforts to promote international peace and security.

  • India has consistently supported the goals and principles of the UN, and has played a constructive role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, terrorism, and poverty.

  • India has a strong and growing economy, with a GDP that is among the top 10 in the world. It is also a major contributor to the UN's budget, providing significant financial resources to the organization.

  • India has a diverse and vibrant civil society, with a wide range of NGOs and other organizations that are actively engaged in international development and humanitarian work.

  • India has a long history of cultural and political ties with many countries around the world, and is seen as a bridge between different regions and cultures.

Despite these efforts, India has not yet been successful in achieving permanent membership in the UNSC. However, it has received strong support from many other countries, including the United States, Japan, and several European Union member states. It is hoped that with continued efforts and support, India will eventually be able to join the P5 as a permanent member of the UNSC.
