The Mahanadi Coal Fields (MCF) are located in the state of Odisha, India. It is one of the largest coal mining areas in the country and is operated by the state-owned Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).
The coal deposits in this region are of high quality and are primarily used for power generation and steel production. The MCF covers an area of around 3,000 square kilometers and has an estimated coal reserve of over 15 billion tonnes.
It is an important contributor to the state's economy, providing employment to a large number of people and contributing significantly to the state's revenue.
However, the coal mining activities in this region have also had negative impacts on the environment and local communities, leading to protests and controversies.
